It's been a long night. Mel had a particularly tough grab in the Uppers, and set upon by an unusually together group of lurks on her way home. Oh, and then she had to clear up after a murder.

Rutting domestics. She hates men sometimes.

OK, not all of them. But she's tired, messy, and no longer looking forward to a shower in the near future. Maybe once she's told Mike of the situation, there'll at least be snuggles.

Once she finds him.

Mike's voice softens.

"And you?"

[slayer_fray]

"Came in afterwards," Mel points out, but she leans on him.

"I'm too used to running from law. Not being it."

[mnt_mike]

He chuckles, holding her close

*I just hid from it, that's kind of the same thing, right?"

[slayer_fray]

"Yeah," Mel says, exhaling gently.

"I don't suppose we can just let her go tomorrow?"

[mnt_mike]

"Yeeeaaaah, probably not. How much do we know about the situation? What's the likelyhood that someone'd be looking to restore honor or something?"

[slayer_fray]

Mel shrugs. "No idea. I don't even know who his friends are."

[mnt_mike]

"Might be best for all involved to keep her secure then."

He takes a deep breath.

"great googly moogly."

[slayer_fray]

"Yeah," Mel agrees, and curls up against him, hugging her knee.

Her pants and boots are still on.

"I'm not even on duty tonight."

[mnt_mike]

"There's such a thing as not being on duty?"

Yeah, boots onna bed? Mike does not approve. He pats his lap, as an indicator that she can stretch her legs across him, if she wants.

Fine. She'll do that.

"Security duty," she says. "Guess you're right, though. It's like Slaying. Gotta be done when it's gotta be done."

Oh good. That'll make it easier for him to take off her boots.

"And there's never a dull moment."

[slayer_fray]

"Yeah, that's what you say now," Mel says. "You forget how boring it is waiting for the things to happen."

[mnt_mike]

"You forget how easily amused I am by pretty much...anything."

He grins as he gives her left boot a tug.

[slayer_fray]

Mel grabs his shoulder and eases her foot out of the boot.

"Good point. Would have thought that hard to forget."

[mnt_mike]

"Well, you've had a busy day. And speaking of that, slay or grab?"

[slayer_fray]

"Yes," Mel says, swapping her feet over and leaning more heavily on him. "One got in the way of the other."

[mnt_mike]

The right boot gets the same level of tug as the left had gotten.

"Poor bastard. Even I know better than to get in your way during a grab."

[slayer_fray]

"It's not like they have time to learn," Mel remarks. "No one lives to tell the others not to piss me off."

[mnt_mike]

"You could like, make little signs to put in the piles of ash. This pile of ash brought to you by a grant from the Fray Foundation."

[slayer_fray]

"Good plan," Mel says. "Except that'd kind of point the law to the person behind all the pump murders that're going on."

[mnt_mike]

"Pumps? I thought it was just lurks?"

[slayer_fray]

"It is," Mel explains. "The law don't know the difference. Some if them."

[mnt_mike]

"Aaaaand the lack of body doesn't tip them off? Silly silly enforcers of the law."

[slayer_fray]

Mel shakes her head.

"Cops aren't hired for their smarts."

[mnt_mike]

"That's because no smart person would jump in front of a bad guy's gun no matter how much you paid them. Only good people do that, and they're not known for being all that bright."
