[OOM: Haddyn, first things first]
Jul. 8th, 2005 11:53 pmMel's never quite appreciated what this board can do , having never using it in an environment quite as urban as this.
The only word she would ever use is rocketship. It gives her speed, maneuvrability, and control she's never had before. She can twist between cars, hover around corners, cover the height of a building in seconds. It gives her the full run of the entire city - in all three dimensions - in away she's never dreamed. Faster, quieter, easier to control than a rocketboard, she is the protector of Haddyn and this is her steed. She's not sure she's ever felt so alive.
She goes up. up, as far and as fast as she can go, up past the main highways, past the main skyline of buildings, leaving the slums and the uppers alike stretching out below her as she passes the few cars trying to save time by speeding in unpatrolled airways above the main city. Up, up, with the tallest buildings on the Haddyn skyline, until it's just her, and the sky, and the expanse of her city laid out before her. Her city. Her home. Her world.
She's home.
Standing upright, a mile above the ground, Mel laughs.
She laughs with the joy of being home. She laughs with relief that her world is no longer without a Slayer. She laughs with the anticipation of seeing Erin again: Erin and Gunther and Legs. She laughs with the endorphins that the flight through the city had given her. She laughs with the knowledge that Milliways has made her in a different person, and a better person, she hopes. She laughs because she's made an impact on people from different worlds that aren't even hers.
She laughs because it's easier than dealing with the pain of knowing she'll never see Mikey again. She laughs because if she stops, she'll cry about him and Indy and Ace and Faith. She laughs until she's scared she'll never be able to stop.
She laughs and she laughs and she laughs.
