[Milliways: Field Trip to Haddyn, 2293]
Bar had given them all back packs. It's kind of cute, really, in Mel's opinion. small little things, containing only the essentials - a zapper pistol for each of them, a cross, a stake, a round of PB&J with the crusts cut off, a flask of milky tea, and lunch money (about 20 coi each).
Mel herself just has her own gun and scythe sheathed on her back, as she climbs through the window into her small, beaten up apartment, and holds the door open for them.

"And... well, depends whether or not you count lurks as people."
She glances at 'Kita again. "Wanna make a stop soon?"
no subject
When Mel looks over at Kita, she does too, and then keeps scanning the area absently. SNEAKY.
"Yeah, maybe get our legs on the ground a bit?"
That's totally convincing! It's not like Steph loves to fly more than anything else in the world or anything.

He's not really sure what to call them BEYOND that, because-- well, Asiatic mythos don't really include a lot on vampirism. ...Flying disembodied heads that suck your blood? Sure. Vampires? Not so much.
As for the landing, he'll follow the others when they're ready.

"See that roof over there? We'll stop at the lights. Jump off soon as we're stopped."
no subject
Now isn't that reassuring?
The van pulls to a halt, and Steph readies herself to leap.
no subject
Makita nods and slowly, carefully shifts from a splayed out hug of the vehicle to something more like a crouch. Not really the best jumping position, but more effective than lying on your stomach with your eyes closed.

And lands easily, though he's soon staring over the edge of the building at the STUFF HE CAN SEE.
He'll do fine, really, with the physical stuff. It's just everything's so distracting when he gets there...
no subject
"C'mon... or we'll have to get Mel to throw you!"
no subject
She's too scared to scream.

She dives to intercept 'Kita's fall, not concerned with anything except reaching out and grabbing the girl's wrist, pulling her into a one-armed embrace. Then they're falling together through the crowded flyway.
no subject
Mel's going to get herself killed!
At least Makita won't die alone.
no subject
But her spare hand shoots out and they jerk violently as she grabs a convenient drainpipe and arrests their fall sharply.
As the pipe begins to crack against the wall, Mel looks to 'Kita, an eyebrow raised and her smirk still in place.
"Hold on tight," she says. "I need to get something out of my pocket."
no subject
Makita nods and tries to remember how to breathe again.

They fall for another foot or so before she can flick the rug out straight and curls her feet under it.
So Slayer and soldier are then standing on a small skate-board sized wollen mat in the middle of a busy street.
"How you doing?"
no subject
Oh, right, breathing. You need to do that before you can talk.
She gasps in a shuddering breath, then another. Then she swallows, nods shakily, and manages: "I'm... okay." Mostly.
no subject
"Quite the buzz, huh? Let's see how the others are doing."
no subject
"Ten bucks it takes less than a minute," she says over her shoulder, grinning at Jet.
no subject
"...she... do this a lot?" he asks, peering down with a perplexed look on his face. "I mean."
no subject
It makes perfect sense to Steph, who does the same. Just, y'know, Steph uses grapples. And doesn't have Slayer speed.
"They'll be fine."
no subject
no subject
"You guys weren't worried, were you?" Surely not!
As they draw level with the roof, she steps off and lets Makita feel her feet on something solid again.
